Villa San Simone – Residenza d’epoca (ancient residence) is perched on the foot hills dominating the Florence and Pistoia plane. The Villa was built at the end of the 19th century on the remains of a medieval convent and a Romanesque church dating from the 11th century AD from which the villa has taken its name.

The owners are two well known architects who have completely restored this period villa, furnished the apartments with antique and designer furniture and provided it with modern conveniences (TV, DVD and ADSL Internet). Lidia and Sandro (the owners), who live in the Villa, will be happy to welcome you as friends and provide you with information and suggestions which will make your holiday a memorable experience.

Villa San Simone is not a luxury hotel, nor a villa to rent as you will find no austere concierges and electronic door keys. On the contrary, it will offer it’s guests an elegant but informal and relaxing environment with comfortable furniture, magnificent garden and woodland, and above all a warm welcome that will make you feel at home.

THE HISTORY


The first building of St. Simone was the Lombard watchtower (800 AD) what controlled the valley below. The tower later became the bell tower of the small Romanesque church devoted to St. Simone built around the year 1000, along the route that connected the Abbey of Taona and the pass towards the north of Italy. Next to the church a small settlement became established, that numbered 10 families in the year 1200. By 1400 the building complex had grown to include a small convent and a hospice for pilgrims that later became a summer Episcopalian residence.

At the end of the 18th century a wealthy banker turned the Romanesque church and the adjacent buildings into a villa in eclectic style, with richly painted salons, as well as creating the great garden that overlooks the underlying valley.

Today, after long and detailed restoration as well as the total renovation of the fittings, Villa San Simone has been turned into stylish period residence and it offers six apartments, individually furnished with taste and elegance.
